Amber Juncker has assumed new responsibilities in the University of Georgia College of Engineering as director of engagement and recruitment, effective immediately. In this new role, Juncker will provide oversight and strategic planning for student engagement, recruitment, and new student orientation programs.

Juncker joined the College’s Office of Student Success in 2019 as associate director of outreach and engagement. Since then, her duties and role have expanded significantly.

“Amber’s responsibilities have changed from managing activities related to recruitment to providing oversight and strategic planning for student recruitment, particularly in areas aimed at recruiting high-achieving and under-represented students,” said Stephan Durham, Assistant Dean for Student Success and Outreach. “This focus is in line with the College of Engineering’s overall goal of increasing diversity and inclusion and we believe it represents a move from managerial duties to more of an executive role.”

One of Juncker’s first priorities in her new position will be developing and implementing the College of Engineering’s new First-Year Scholars Program. The scholarship and professional development initiative is designed to help the college recruit, retain and support underrepresented students in the field of engineering, beginning Fall 2022.

“The College of Engineering continues to invest in the pursuit of academic excellence, student success, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. I’m humbled and honored to continue to contribute and grow the impact of our mission,” said Juncker. “Working with the students, staff, and faculty in our college is a privilege and I’m proud to be part of the Bulldog Engineering community.”

Juncker serves as the lead for all planning and staff training related to new student orientation within the college, provides oversight of the Student Ambassador and Equity Engineers Council student leadership programs, provides oversight of student clubs and organizations, and leads and oversees the hiring and supervision of student workers in the Office of Student Success. She is also the primary lead for all aspects of student success initiatives, such as Welcome Week, Involvement Fair, and Engineers’ Week programming. In addition, she is the college’s primary liaison with UGA’s Division of Academic Enhancement.

“Given the growth in student enrollment the College of Engineering has experienced in recent years, the College is at a juncture where student success programming and strategic recruitment are critical to the continued academic success of our students and the overall progression of the College,” said Donald Leo, dean of the College of Engineering. “In her new role, Amber will fill a vital position to ensure success and progress for our college.”

Juncker joined the UGA College of Engineering in 2015 as an academic advisor. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communications studies with a minor in management from Georgia Southern University where she was a student-athlete. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education through UGA’s Learning, Leadership, and Organizational Development Program.
