UGA College of Engineering names Kelley W. Saussy first Director of Experiential Programs

Kelley SaussyKelley W. Saussy, former career consultant in The Career Center at the University of Georgia, has been named the first Director of Experiential Programs in UGA’s College of Engineering, announced Dean Donald J. Leo.

“Kelley possesses the background in career counseling, student advising and industrial relations needed to successfully launch this new, emerging program at the College of Engineering,” said Leo. “Along with these important skills, we are impressed with the keen rapport she has with our students.  I am confident she will complement and contribute to the expanding efforts of our new college.”

In her position, Saussy will be responsible for working with students, faculty and industry partners on internships and co-op programs; providing career counseling for students; enhancing and expanding undergraduate research programs; and collaborating with the appropriate university and international officials on study abroad programs for engineering students.

A native of Morganton, North Carolina, Saussy received her undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology and her master’s degree in college student development, with a concentration in student affairs practice, both from Appalachian State University. During her academic studies, she worked as an intern and graduate student in several programs related to career counseling. In June 2011, Saussy joined UGA as an academic advisor in the department of elementary and social studies education in the College of Education, and later, in May 2012, she was named as a career consultant in The Career Center at UGA.  She is member of the Georgia Association of Colleges and Employers and the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

“I am beyond excited to begin my role as the director of Experiential Programs for the College of Engineering,” said Saussy. “It will be an honor to connect students to rewarding experiences that will enhance their professional growth and development. I feel confident I will come to this role with new and engaging ideas to better prepare students for the working world.”
