Four engineering faculty members earn promotion

C. Li, Z. Pan, B. Xu, and L. LiUniversity of Georgia College of Engineering Dean Donald J. Leo has announced the promotion of four faculty members.

Charlie Li, Zhengwei Pan and Bingqian Xu were promoted from associate professor to full professor, while Luke Li was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor. The promotions were effective July 1.

“I join the entire College of Engineering faculty and staff in congratulating these outstanding faculty members,” said Leo. “Their promotion recognizes their accomplishments in the classroom, in research and in service. All four have growing reputations for their scholarly contributions, and we are fortunate and proud to have them as members of the UGA Engineering community.”

Changying “Charlie” Li joined the UGA faculty in 2007. His research focuses on using sensing, robotics and automation to solve problems in agricultural and biological systems. Li earned a Ph.D. in agricultural and biological engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

Pan, who joined the UGA faculty in 2006, received a Ph.D. from Northwestern Polytechnic University, China. His research interests include the development of novel near-infrared persistent phosphors and near-infrared photostimulable storage phosphors for defense and security, solar energy utilization, bio-imaging and optical information storage.

Xu has been a member of the UGA faculty since 2006. He is conducting research in the field of single molecule biophysics and biochemistry, molecular electronics, nanotechnology and bioengergy. Xu earned a Ph.D. in science and engineering of materials from Arizona State University.

Ke “Luke” Li joined the UGA faculty in 2009. His research focuses on water and wastewater treatment and sustainability. Li earned a Ph. D. in environmental engineering from Michigan Technological University.
