Amy Brooks, a doctoral student in the University of Georgia College of Engineering, is quoted in a China Daily article on the United Kingdom’s efforts to reduce its plastic waste. Brooks is the lead author of “The Chinese Import Ban and its Impact on the Global Plastic Waste Trade,” a study that appeared in the journal Sciences Advances.

The UK’s plastic waste “could be sent to landfills, burned, or buried, or sent to other countries that do not necessarily have the infrastructure to manage it,” according to Brooks.

Brooks is a member of UGA’s New Materials Institute and studies under Jenna Jambeck, an associate professor in the UGA College of Engineering and one of the world’s leading authorities on plastic waste management.
