Tim Foutz
The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), Southeastern Section, has named the University of Georgia’s Tim Foutz as the winner of the 2015 Outstanding Teaching Award.
The Southeastern Section of ASEE presents the award annually to recognize exceptional contributions to engineering or engineering technology education through outstanding classroom performance. The award, which is given to one person each year, was presented at the ASEE Southeastern Section annual conference April 13 in Gainesville, Florida. A colleague, department head or student may nominate a candidate for the award.
“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by a professional society that promotes and celebrates excellence in teaching. Receiving this award helps to intensify my commitment to the scholarship of teaching and learning,” said Foutz.
Foutz joined the UGA faculty in 1988. As a professor in the UGA College of Engineering, he specializes in research related to the biomechanics of the avian musculoskeletal system and the biomechanics of orthopedic therapies used in veterinary medicine. He also leads a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and engineering education outreach project. This research and service program is dedicated to improving K-12 science and engineering education in Georgia.
In addition, Foutz served as the inaugural director of UGA’s First-Year Odyssey seminar program from 2011 to 2013. He’s also active in the University of Georgia Teaching Academy.
Foutz earned a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in biological and agricultural engineering from North Carolina State University.
ASEE is a non-profit organization with more than 12,000 members. Its members include engineering school faculty, administrators and institutional workers, and K–12 teachers. The organization’s Southeast Section covers Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Puerto Rico.
