The MS in Agricultural Engineering is oriented toward executing engineering solutions for feed, fiber and food production problems and/or postharvest processing problems. Problems addressed by this degree are generally at or beyond the field scale; however, solution approaches frequently begin at the bench scale level. The MS in Agricultural Engineering degree provides an opportunity for learning advanced data analyses skills and original research presentation skills. Problem definition skills are also stressed. The MS in Agricultural Engineering will preserve and continue the enduring legacy of Agricultural Engineering research at the University of Georgia.
Those holding a baccalaureate degree in engineering or a related field from an accredited institution and earned a GPA of 3.00 (out of 4.00) are invited to apply for admission. If the baccalaureate degree is in a field other than engineering, the applicant should have taken sophomore physics (electricity and magnetism, optics, and modern physics), differential equations and several engineering science courses. Examples of engineering science courses include electric circuits, mechanics (statics and fluids) and heat/mass transfer. Undergraduate academic transcripts, a statement of purpose, and three letters of recommendations must be submitted. Additionally, the General Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required, and the GRE-PPI score is strongly encouraged. TOEFL is required for international students whose native language is other than English. Requirements for the MS in Agricultural Engineering degree will include completion of course requirements in compliance with the University of Georgia Graduate School requirements. That is, a student’s program of study will include a minimum of 24 semester credit hours, 12 of which must be from UGA courses open to only graduate students exclusive of thesis and project research. The 12 hours may not be satisfied by transfer credit, Master’s research (7000), Masters’ project research (7010), or thesis writing (7300). Specific required courses include Computational Mathematics (3 hours), Research Methods (3 hours), and seminar (1 hour). To receive the MS in Agricultural Engineering degree, each student will be required to present a satisfactory research proposal approved by the advisory committee and the graduate coordinator and pass a final examination and defense of the research thesis.
