Driftmier Engineering Center Renovation
We're committed to a new generation of engineers
The University of Georgia College of Engineering has launched a major revitalization of it primary instructional building, the Driftmier Engineering Center. The project is designed to enhance the student experience by providing more space for collaboration, more space for design work and more space for teamwork.
The Driftmier Engineering Center opened in 1966 and is the first impression of UGA Engineering for students, parents, alumni and friends of the university. This project will ensure the building reflects the high quality of our educational programs.
Phase I Renovation Plans
The first phase of the Driftmier Engineering Center renovation will significantly expand and enhance the College of Engineering’s undergraduate instructional labs and add two new state-of-the-art classrooms. The initial work includes 13,000 square feet of new instructional space with an estimated 385 seats and is scheduled to open in August 2019. The majority of the new instructional space will be assigned to at least nine new wet and dry labs in support of the mechanical, civil, electrical, computer systems, biological, and agricultural engineering programs. The renovation will also provide two new classrooms with a total of 1,800 square feet and 72 seats.
The new facilities will include:
- Biological and Energy System Laboratory
- Cell Culture Laboratory
- Environmental Systems Laboratory
- Materials Processing Laboratory
- Systems Design Laboratory
- Systems Simulation Laboratory
- Thermal-Fluid Systems Laboratory
- Undergraduate Discovery Laboratory
Key Naming Opportunities
Connecting to our core values, we have naming opportunities relating to learning through classroom spaces, instructional labs, auditoriums, and meeting rooms. Additionally we have a naming opportunity for our Student Success Center which will connect engineering students to academic resources.
Through our core value of discovery we have opportunities relating to experiential learning, our Engineering Education Institute and mixed use laboratories including maker-spaces and flex laboratories.
Our core value of innovation encompasses opportunities related to design and fabrication laboratories as well as a covered outdoor proving ground where students will be able to test their projects and experiments.
